Leading Construction, Services and Property giant, Kier Group, recently asked Areca Design to provide an innovative way of telling the property world about Kier’s aspirations and goals for 2014.
The solution was a full-page advert in Property Week titled ‘Time to Chat’, where the 37,000 readers could view Executive Director Nigel Turner standing on the advert presenting the upcoming Kier year, by simply scanning, with a mobile-device, an Augmented Reality trigger image, in this case a pair of plastic toy teeth.
Kier Group was introduced to Augmented Reality (AR) when Mick Hurst, Managing Director of Areca Design spoke to Kier Business Development Manager, Mike Tyrell at a Find It In Worcestershire breakfast meeting. Mike immediately saw the potential of AR and championed the cutting-edge technology within Kier. Areca Design then supported Mike at an internal Kier ‘Dragon’s Den’ style competition, where the AR presentation was enthusiastically received by the judging panel made up of senior Kier Directors.
Talking about the future
The collaboration between the two businesses is set to continue with Augmented Reality Apps being utilised throughout Kier, once the feedback from the ‘Time to Chat’ advert has been analysed. Augmented Reality can enhance physical objects, photographs or illustrations by bringing to life an interactive presentation, including videos, 3D illustrations, web-pages and forms.
