Visitors to Avon Meadows, Pershore’s Community Wetland and Local Nature Reserve, will soon be able to get even closer to nature, with the upcoming launch of a new, interactive, Mobile Augmented Reality App.
The Avon Meadows App, designed and created the team at Areca Design, uses Mobile Augmented Reality (AR) technology to bring the wetland to life, through the use of smart device.
By hovering a phone camera over the new information boards or the official visitors map at Avon Meadows, people will be able to see the various birds, small animals and creatures living there – moving around before their eyes. The interactive nature of the app allows you to click on each moving creature, onscreen, to find out more information, whilst enjoying a walk around the wetland. There are also various viewing points on the in-app 3D map functionality, which when clicked on will transform the meadows into full bloom.
Liz Etheridge, Wychavon’s Wetlands for All Officer, said: “The free-to-use Avon Meadows AR App will allow people to learn more about the Meadows in a fun and interactive way and is just another way for visitors to enjoy what the site has to offer, especially when some of the wildlife is harder to spot. People will also be able to see and share our vision of a flower-filled paradise, through this creative technology, which is as great for wildlife as it is for people.”
The app will be officially launched on Friday 22nd April at 3:00pm, when a special tour will take place to demonstrate how the innovative technology works. The app is free to download, on iPhone as well as Android devices. Simply search Avon Meadows in the App Store or on Google Play. If you want to join the tour, please bring your smartphone or tablet and download the app before you come along.
