Young Enterprise Company Programme:

Empowering young people: to learn, to work, to live

About Young Enterprise

Youth unemployment remains a critical issue in the UK, with 850,000 16-24 year olds (11.8%) not in employment, education or training (NEET).

Young Enterprise is the UK's leading business and enterprise education charity. The company provides 210,000 learning opportunities for young people each year with the support of 6,100 volunteers from local business.

These activities aim to enable young people to develop and apply crucial skills that help them to succeed in work and in life: teamwork, confidence, problem solving, initiative, financial literacy, communication, organisation and resilience. Students with regular access to enterprise education are 5 times less likely to end up NEET. Young Enterprise aim to prevent youth unemployment and ensure that employers are able to source a quality pipeline of young employees.

The Company Programme

The Programme is a true test of young people’s readiness for a real work environment. The programme is truly unique in quality, reach and effectiveness and sparks the entrepreneurial spirit in young people, supporting them to work in a group and start a business for 1 academic year.

Each year around 20,000 young students set up 2,000+ Companies across the UK, with support from Young Enterprise and volunteer business mentors; in 2016 they generated £2 million in sales. These are real companies that experience the real challenges and opportunities of the business world, providing a practical insight to what life after school is about, including trading with the general public.
